My name is Julian Stone, and I am a personal trainer that has personal experience of losing more than 100 pounds. One of the most important aspects of losing any amount of weight is spending more of your time being more active.

Step 4: Be More Active

The best way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. That may seem obvious, but it is common for people to cut calories to lose weight, which is the wrong way to approach weight loss. Being more active than you were previously will result in weight loss, as long as you have your diet under control. Be more active is step four of my lose 100 pounds guide.

There are many different activities that you can participate in when trying to lose weight; being more active is more fun when you find something that you can enjoy doing. Going out for a run 5 days per week will quickly become difficult to maintain, if you hate running. However, if you have a dog that relies on you, then going out for a walk every day is something that you will enjoy.

Walking For Weight Loss

For some people, any amount of activity is more than they are used to doing, so walking is a great way to start being more active. You don't need any special equipment, and you can find lots of places to walk, no matter where you live. Learn more: walking for weight loss.

Go outside and walk, you will feel better, and you will burn calories while you are walking. If you don't like the idea of walking alone, find your local walking group and walk with other people.

Running For Weight Loss

If you find walking too boring, or you just want to increase the intensity of your active lifestyle, then running may be for you. If you have never been running before, you will find that it will take a few sessions to get used to the different stresses and strains that running puts on your body, so don't try to do too much too soon. While running requires no special training, you do have to make sure that you are running in a natural way, and not trying to run too fast or taking longer strides than necessary.

Interval Training For Weight Loss

While walking and running are good for weight loss, if you are looking to take your training to the next level, then it is a good idea to do some interval training. Learn more: interval training for weight loss.

By increasing the intensity, not only are you burning more calories, but you are also training your body to cope with higher levels of stress. Interval training is more stressful to your central nervous system, and your fitness will improve.
